Over the holiday weekend, 19-year-old Halima Aden has become the first contestant to wear a burkini and hijab at the Miss Minnesota USA pageant.
The Somali-American student competed against 45 other contestants, and wore her hijab throughout the pageant to "bust" misconceptions of Muslim women.
"A lot of people will look at you and will fail to see your beauty because you're covered up and they're not used to it," she told KARE-11. "So growing up I just had to work on my people skills and give people a chance to really know me besides the clothing."
